Hansa Language Centre proudly offers language programs for Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Classes are in small groups to ensure that all the student's needs are met. These and other languages are also available on a privately tutored basis.

Hansa offers two levels of group Arabic classes. These eight week programs are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and focus on Modern Standard Arabic (Fus-ha). A minimum of three students is needed for the group course to run. Payment and registration must be received before the registration deadline.

Arabic Level 1 - $325

Hansa's Level 1 Arabic course covers the first half of Read & Speak Arabic For Beginners (by Jane Wightwick & Mahmoud Gaafar) and focuses on making students familiar with the alphabet, pronunciation, greetings, days of the week, and other simple vocabulary. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to ask simple questions, and read and pronounce very basic Arabic words.

Arabic Level 2 - $325

The Level 2 Arabic course reviews everything covered in Hansa's Level 1 course and continues on to finish the second half of Read & Speak Arabic For Beginners. This course is ideal for anyone who is considering travelling to Arabic speaking countries. Students will begin to understand simple directions and instructions. After completing this course, students will be able to identify Arabic numbers and should be able to make simple purchases.

French Starting Dates

Hansa offers five levels of group French classes. These eight week programs are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and focus on French spoken in France. A minimum of three students is needed for the group course to run. Payment and registration must be received before the registration deadline.

French Level 1 - $325

Hansa's Level 1 French course is designed to give students a strong foundation in the French Language and covers units 1 to 42 of Grammaire Progressive du Français. Students learn the basic pronunciation of the French language and become familiar with the greetings, numbers, days of the week, as well as other day-to-day vocabulary. Upon completion of the course students will be able to ask simple questions like directions, prices and general information in present tense. They will also be able to order food in a restaurant and make hotel reservations.

French Level 2 - $325

The Level 2 French course reviews everything covered in Hansa's Level 1 French course and goes on to cover units 43 to 60 (of Grammaire Progressive du Français). Apart from a great deal of new vocabulary and irregular verbs, students will also learn general grammar like comparatives, superlatives and the perfect tenses ( past,continuous). Students begin to follow dialogue, construct sentences and speak in broken French. New grammar includes future and past tenses etc. Upon completion of this course students should be able to speak, understand and carry a very basic conversation.

French Level 3 - $325

Hansa's Level 3 French course reviews everything in level 1 and 2 and goes on to the book Vocabulaire Progressive du Français. This course focuses on speaking and vocabulary. Upon completion students will have the necessary vocabulary to go on to the next level. They will be able to understand a great deal of French but will still have difficulty being understood.

French Level 4 - $325

French Level 4 course uses the book Grammaire Progressive du Français – Intermediaire as the main resource. It covers more complex grammar like conditionals, the subjunctive, Le Plus-que-parfait... Students at this level are able to understand French music and radio brodcasts and speak with some difficulty.

After level 5 we recommend lots of review and practice through either private instruction or programs at one of our partner schools in Quebec or France.

Curriculum is designed for Brazilian Portuguese. However teachers will differentiate between what is said in Brazil and what is used in Portugal. These eight week programs are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A minimum of three students is needed for the group course to run. Portuguese Level 1 - $325

In Hansa's Level 1 Portuguese course students will cover units 1 to 5 of Fala Brasil. They will learn to read and pronounce the Portuguese language and become familiar with the greetings, numbers, days of the week, as well as other day-to-day vocabulary. Upon completion of the course students will be able to ask simple questions like directions, prices and general information in present tense. They will also be able to order food in a restaurant and make hotel reservations. This program serves as the essential basics for anyone travelling to Brazil, Portugal, East Timor, Mozambique or Angola.

The Level 2 Portuguese course reviews units 1 to 5 (of Fala Brasil) and goes on to cover units 6 to 10. Curriculum is designed for Latin American Spanish. However teachers differentiate between the Spanish used in Spain and the Spanish used in Latin American countries. A minimum of three students is needed for the group course to run. Payment and registration must be received before the registration deadline.

Spanish Level 1 - $325

The Level 1 Spanish course at Hansa covers the first half of “Pensar y aprender”. Students are introduced to the Spanish alphabet and pronunciation. Telling time, greetings, numbers, days of the week, the months, seasons, as well as other day-to-day vocabulary (such as food, clothing, & weather) are covered in the vocabulary section of this course. The general grammar content for this course is outlined below:

• Definite and indefinite articles: (el, un, la, una +plural)
• Feminine and masculine nouns, rules for singular and plural
• Position of adjectives, agreeing in gender and number
