Please note that there is a $50 registration fee for all French
programs at Hansa Language Centre. Books and materials are included
in the registration fee. All lessons are held at Hansa's 2160 Yonge
Street campus. For private classes held off campus, within Toronto,
an additional 20% surcharge will be added to the course fee.
Group French Language Programs in Toronto
French Starting Dates
Hansa offers five levels of group French classes. These eight week programs are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM,
and focus on French spoken in France. A minimum of three students is needed for the group course to run. Payment and registration must be received before the registration deadline.
French Level 1 - $325
Hansa's Level 1 French course is designed to give students a strong foundation in the French Language and covers units 1 to 29 of
Grammaire Progressive du Français. Students learn the basic pronunciation of the French language and become familiar with the
greetings, numbers, days of the week, as well as other day-to-day vocabulary. Upon completion of the course students will be able to
ask simple questions like directions, prices and general information in present tense.
French Level 2 - $325
The Level 2 French course reviews everything covered in Hansa's Level 1 French course and goes on to cover units 30 to 43 of Grammaire
Progressive du Français. Apart from a great deal of new vocabulary and irregular verbs, students will also learn general grammar like
comparatives, superlatives and the near future tense. Students begin to follow dialogue, construct sentences and speak
in broken French. For example they should be also be able to order food in a
restaurant and make hotel reservations, etc.
French Level 3 - $325
In Hansa's Level 3 French course students briefly review everything covered in level 1 and 2 and then go on to learn perfect tenses (past & continuous) in chapters 44 to 60 of Grammaire
Progressive du Français. Upon completion of this course students should be able to speak,
understand and carry a very basic conversation. By this time they will be able to understand a great deal of French but will still have difficulty being understood.
French Level 4 - $325
Hansa's Level 4 French course is the first level that focuses on vocabulary and getting students to speak. The book Vocabulaire Progressive du Français is used as the primary resource. Upon completion students will have the necessary skills to go on to the next level. They will be able to understand a great deal of French and have little difficulty being understood.
French Level 5 - $325
The French Level 5 course uses the book Grammaire Progressive du Français – Intermediaire as the main resource. It covers more complex
grammar like conditionals, the subjunctive, Le Plus-que-parfait... Students at this level are able to understand French music and
radio brodcasts and speak with little difficulty. After level 5 we recommend lots of review and practice through either private instruction or programs at one of Hansa's partner schools
in Quebec or France.
